ANZAC Centenary Facebook App

2014 - 2018 marks Australia’s commemorations of the ANZAC Centenary.  To encourage everyone to be a part of the Centenary, we created this custom Facebook application which allows users to upload their photos to the DVA’s Facebook page.

Users can select photos from their Facebook account (via authorisation dialog) or upload directly from their desktop/tablet or mobile phones. Our app integrates with Twitter and Instagram via a custom campaign hashtag. Photos can be viewed on a World Map or a Photo Wall and access customized search functions specific to the ANZAC celebrations.  

A Highly functional Backend CMS allows DVA to moderate all photos and we developed a “Load Balanced” solution which allows for peak usage (e.g. around ANZAC day when 40,000+ posts per day are expected).  We also designed the Social Media Campaign Strategy to promote the app through to 2018 and beyond

Our app has a powerful back-end CMS and includes the following key features:-

  • Users can select photos from their Facebook account (via authorisation dialog) or upload directly from their desktop/tablet or mobile phones
  • To ensure the DVA secures permission for other uses of these photos, users are asked to check a box, giving their permission before a photo can be uploaded. 
  • Users can add comments to their photo after the initial upload and before it’s submitted to the site.
  • There is no limit to the number of photos that can be stored on the app (It’s a function of the hosting server).
  • Viewing options includes a World Map view of all photos. 
  • We created customized search functions specific to the ANZAC celebrations.  E.g. search by regiment, Battle etc.
  • Integrates with Twitter and Instagram via a custom campaign hashtag
  • Highly functional Backend CMS to allow DVA to moderate all photos
  • All photos stored on an external site for future use by DVA
  • “Load Balanced” application which allows for peak usage (e.g. around ANZAC day when 40,000+ posts per day are expected

  • The look and feel of the App is in keeping with the DVA Facebook pages, ANZAC Centenary web-site and other social media and the DVA Branding Guidelines.

We also developed a comprehensive Social Media Campaign Strategy for this 4 year Commemoration.
